For the Love of Dogs

There are countless stories of animal lovers who have left their pets substantial amounts of money in their wills. Take Leona Helmsley, who, upon her death in 2007, left her dog Trouble a cool $12 million bucks. My own grandmother (God rest her soul) provided for her beloved Sydney by including a provision in her living trust: Her home was not to be sold until Sydney's passing.
Ten years ago, I would have thought this just way over the top. That was BC... (Before Chloe)
BC, I was very indifferent to dogs. I grew up with dogs in the home ~ they were just never mine. It wasn't until the adoption of a sickly little mutt in July of 2001 that my heart went to the dogs. The minute that we brought home that little ball of fur, my life changed forever. There has not been one single day in the last 10 years that Chloe has failed to make me smile or laugh. No matter how crappy of a day I have had, Chloe has always had the knack of making the day better with a wag of her tail and her goofy grin.
Chloe is going through some major medical problems. Everyday she is forced to swallow nine pills, sit still while an IV needle is inserted into her neck and be patient while 1/2 a bag of IV solution drips into her body. She puts up with me trying to force her to try to eat different foods and constantly telling her to drink her water. And yet, as crappy as she feels, she still finds the strength to wag her tail or attempt a grin, just to make her mom & dad happy.
Leaving tons of money or a home to your best friend doesn't seem so crazy anymore...
